TIME TO CARE – COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE AGREEMENTS
Did you know most independent pharmacies miss over 70% of immunization opportunities? That may not sound like much, but on a per store average, it represents more than $38,000 in gross profit potential to vaccinate flu, shingles and pneumococcal-eligible patients. This is not only promising, but it further solidifies the need for Collaborative Practice Agreements (CPA). By creating a formal relationship between pharmacists and physicians, the CPA enables pharmacies to bill for clinical services under a delegating physician’s NPI #. Here is some more good news: PrescribeWellness now provides a CPA for vaccines access in 41 states! That’s right, the time to participate in a CPA is now, and don’t forget to use VaccineComplete – it is the perfect compliment. When VaccineComplete is used in conjunction with a CPA, it’s only a matter of time before your pharmacy becomes a year-round immunization destination in your community!
July Spotlight Campaign: Year-Round Immunization
Chances are your patients know they need a flu shot… and that’s about it. And as you already know, there are other vaccinations your patients should be getting the rest of the year, but aren’t. The good news is, they would love to get these vaccinations, and they would love to get them from you! To help make sure you don’t forget to take advantage of these clinical service opportunities, we encourage you to start using PrescribeWellness’ automated recurring campaigns for two-dose vaccines – the second does being Pneumonia and Shingrix. This way you can proactively remind patients when they are due for their second dose, and you’ll enjoy the additional revenue from making the commitment to providing preventive care. Quick Tip: Don’t Wait, Stay Up To Date!
Is there anything more frustrating than doing internet research only to realize the information you’re researching isn’t current? Spoiler alert: there isn’t. Don’t let your pharmacy fall into this category by keeping the services on your website up to date. Now patients can search for the vaccines – and any other clinical services – you currently offer, increasing the chances that they’ll come see you, and not their doctor. Also, here’s a quick, fun video you can share on social media to educate your patients on the importance of getting their vaccinations.
Come On Down: Taste The Flavor
Yuck! That’s how most babies and pets feel after taking their meds. And who can blame them – medicine usually doesn’t taste good. Unless of course, it does. Use PharmacyGrowth to schedule a medication flavoring event right at your pharmacy and let your customers know you offer flavoring options for both babies and pets!
Communicating with Patients
Dr. Jeff Goad, PharmD
This month we are featuring Professor and Chair of Chapman University’s Department of Pharmacy, Dr. Jeff Goad, PharmD.
What is the patient mindset that pharmacists should most understand when it comes to maintaining a successful year-round immunization program?
While adults think about shots the most during the winter, influenza is our only seasonal vaccine. All other vaccine-preventable diseases can occur at anytime during the year. There are some vaccines that patients need simply because of their age, or because they have a specific medical condition. In some instances it is based on where they may be traveling to on their next vacation or business trip.
