March ushers in the spring solstice, and is also home to Patient Safety Awareness Week (13-19th), an annual event founded to increase global awareness of patient safety and the importance of holistic healthcare.
Spearheaded by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Patient Safety Awareness Week inspires important discussions that foster deeper learning about the healthcare system, the importance of a patient-focused delivery model, and the central role of the community pharmacist.
By the numbers
Despite the considerable progress made in patient safety over the last twenty years, medical harm is still one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates a whopping 134 million adverse events arise from unsafe hospital care in low and middle-income countries leading to millions of deaths each year.1
Further, these harms are considered to be preventable, demonstrating the continued need of an equipped and accessible healthcare expert – that’s you, community pharmacists!
Advance your practice to increase patient safety
As the nation’s most accessible healthcare provider, community pharmacists are well-positioned to not only advocate for patient safety, but to deliver concierge clinical services that ensure it.
Available to community pharmacists now, the MedWise® Science Platform, Tabula Rasa HealthCare’s proprietary medication safety technology, helps pharmacists identify and mitigate preventable medication-related problems – leading to increased patient safety, and ultimately saving lives.
The MedWise Risk Score™ is available to certified MedWise Advisor™ pharmacists, along with an array of support tools, to launch your concierge pharmacist practice and have a direct impact on patient satisfaction and safety.
You can participate in the MedWise Advisor Certificate Program to receive clinical and operational training for providing medication risk mitigation services in various care settings. Additionally, specialized training consists of self-paced ACPE-accredited courses, along with operational training and demonstrations to ensure you are practicing at the top of your license.
